Where is Mystic Museum of Art?

Mystic Museum of Art is at 9 Water St. in downtown Mystic. It sits along the Mystic River and directly adjacent to the Oyster Club Restaurant. The museum sits in a historic Emporium building that has undergone renovations.

Mystic Museum of Art Hours

Typically, Mystic Museum of Art is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday. There are, however, special hours during the holiday season and certain days when the museum is closed. Be sure to check the museum's website for specific closures.

Mystic Museum of Art Parking

Parking is available at the Mystic Museum of Art but does come at a price. The 24-hour lot is free for under 30 minutes but jumps to $5 for parking from 30 minutes to one hour. After the initial $5, the rate jumps $2.50 every additional 30 minutes. The maximum, however, is $25. Buses and RVs are charged a flat rate of $40 per day. Lost or no tickets will incur a $25 fee.

The museum also offers a Six by Six exhibit is a rotating spotlight that showcases museum-elected arts. It allows them six linear feet of wall space for six weeks, giving the artist control over what they display.

As for the permanent collection, Mystic Museum of Art showcases over 250 works of art ranging from the first quarter of the 20th Century to the early 2000s. The works showcase American Impressionism, Tonalism and other expressions in its collection. Artists such as Robert Brackman, Beatrice Cuming and Henry Ward Ranger are featured within the collection. The museum is constantly trying to improve its collection and has over the past few years.

If you're looking for a more interactive experience, then check out one of the many studio classes available at the museum. There are classes for both adults and kids as well as summer camps, family programs and a host of other options. Adult classes range from photography to basketry and many others. Children classes are available for toddlers up to teenagers 18 years old. Visitors during the summer can take advantage of the summer camps. There are both half and full days.

Connecticut Art Trail

The Connecticut Art trail is a partnership between 22 art museums in Connecticut. It began in 1995 with 10 museums and historic sites. Ten years later, the trail expanded, growing further in 2008. The Mystic Museum of Art is part of this trail. One way to experience the trail is with the Art Trail Passport, which allows people to visit any museum on the trail for $35.
